Yoga for teenagers: Learn these asanas for healthy mind & body

Often, teenagers spend several hours in a day studying. Depending on their class and interest, the time spent playing outdoor games vary. While sports may not be what they want to indulge in, exercise is necessary to stay physically as well as mentally fit. On the occasion of the international yoga day, we recommend students to take up yoga not just for staying healthy but also for improving concentration. From the basket of hundreds of asanas, we have chosen seven asanas which, if practiced regularly, are going to be highly beneficial for teenagers.
But before you read further, a note of caution. Although a few exercises can be done without an expert supervision, it is advisable to opt for a yoga teacher until you master the art.
1. Bhastrika (breathing exercise)
It aids in energising the mind by accelerating the oxygen flow into it. The increased stamina with strong enlarged lungs is a perk for singers and athletes.
2. Shambhavi mudra (the eyebrow center gazing gesture)
It is useful for concentration and strengthening of eye muscles.
3. Agnisaar kriya
It is meant to activate manipurak chakra which helps in digestion. Due to long sitting hours, students may suffer from indigestion.

4. Bhujangasan (Cobra pose)
Very helpful for strengthening lower back, reducing belly fat and relaxing neck.
5. Virabhadrasana (Warrior pose)
Aids in strengthening thigh and hip muscles.
6. Chakrasan (D pose)
It helps to flex back and shoulders which is essential against long sitting in wrong posture while studying and writing. Not to be done without basic stretching exercises.
7. Surya namaskar (Sun salutation)
This exercise is for the comprehensive development of body, mind and lungs. Not to be done without basic stretching exercises. Here’s the video to help you understand how to do it the right way:
