Three asteroids have been discovered by Indian students as part of an International science programme, ‘All India Asteroid Search Campaign’ this year. Nearly 300 students from all across the country participated in the two-month long campaign to find asteroids.
The discoveries have been confirmed by International Astronomical Search Collaboration (IASC), Hardin Simmons University, Texas, USA, and International Astronomical Union which records such discoveries.
The student discoverers are:
- Yash Kumar and Khushi Rana from The Indian Heights School-Dwarka, New Delhi
- K. Sudharshan & S. Mahadevan from Srimad Andavan Arts and Science College-Trichy, Tamilnadu
- Vardaan Chopra and Harsh Vashishtha from St. Thomas School-Dwarka, New Delhi
Every year, since 2010, Indian students participate in this asteroid search campaign conducted by SPACE India (an organisation working towards STEM learning of astronomy and space science in India), in collaboration with IASC.
