Bizarre! This village in Haryana locked their school
Upset with the class X results of the school, villagers of Deeghot village in Haryana decided to register their protest against the administration in a unique way. They locked the school and agreed to unlock it only if the principal was transferred.
It all started when CBSE declared class X results last week. All 51 students of Deeghot Senior Secondary School in Palwal, Haryana, who took the exam this year failed. This angered the villagers so much that they decided to lock the school.
“We felt ashamed that all our students of Class 10 failed in the examination bringing bad name to our village, which has won many awards in the past,” said Jitender Tanwar, sarpanch of Deeghot village, in a report published in Hindustan Times. “We had already raised the issue of poor education system in our school with the state government, but nothing happened,” he added.
Their anger has forced education department to shift the principal (so far, temporarily) from the school. It has also has ordered a probe to find out why none of the students could pass the exams.
This year, the overall pass percentage of Haryana in the CBSE exam has been disappointing at 51.15 per cent. In Palwal district itself, only 7,670 (39.35 per cent) were successful out of 19,491 students who appeared for exams.
