PM Modi Encourages ‘One Day as a Scientist’ Initiative in Mann Ki Baat

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, in his monthly radio programme Mann Ki Baat, spoke about an exciting initiative — ‘One Day as a Scientist’ — aimed at fostering scientific curiosity among students and young people. But what exactly is this initiative, and why is it important?

The idea is simple yet impactful: students are encouraged to spend a day at a research lab or planetarium to gain firsthand experience in scientific exploration. As PM explained, “You should try to spend one day as a scientist. You can choose any day as per your convenience and choice. On that day, you must visit a research lab, planetarium or a space centre. This will enhance your curiosity about Science.”

As India continues to make remarkable advancements in space research and artificial intelligence (AI), this initiative is likely to provide an opportunity for young minds to develop an interest in these cutting-edge fields.

India’s space sector has been expanding rapidly, with ISRO launching its 100th rocket last month. Over the past decade, the agency has successfully launched around 460 satellites, including many for other countries. With private players and startups now actively participating in the sector, career opportunities in space research are growing, making it an exciting field for young aspirants.

Similarly, AI is revolutionising various industries, including education and cultural preservation. One inspiring example is Thodasam Kailash, a government school teacher from Adilabad, Telangana, who is using AI tools to compose songs in tribal languages like Kolami. “His interest in digital music is saving many of our tribal languages. He has done wonders by composing a song in Kolami language with the help of AI tools. He is using AI to compose songs in many languages ​​other than Kolami. His tracks are being liked a lot by our tribal brothers and sisters on social media,” said PM Modi.

By promoting ‘One Day as a Scientist,’ the government aims to instil a scientific temperament in the youth and encourage them to explore careers in research and innovation. As India cements its position as a global leader in space technology and AI, initiatives like these are likely to play a crucial role in inspiring the next generation of scientists and innovators.
