Collins Evaluate: Digital Platform to Aid Teachers & Educators

Collins Learning, the learning and education division of HarperCollins India, has announced the launch of Collins Evaluate, a secure and convenient online tool for educators to assign coursework to their students.

While COVID-19 brought the entire world to a grinding halt, the education sector witnessed a complete metamorphosis – from chalk and board to virtual classrooms. Educators rose to the occasion and led this transformation – innovating, experimenting and exploring – new ways of teaching.  Collins Learning has been their collaborator in this journey of change.

Collins has been supporting schools, educators, parents, and students with a wide array of resources and training programmes to transition and adapt to online teaching-learning methods during the lockdown. Frequent interactions with schools indicated the need for a tool to assign coursework and tests, and this led to the birth of Collins Evaluate. With Collins Evaluate, a teacher will have access to a bank of more than 30,000 questions to create assignments from across subjects. She will also be able to add her own questions, edit the existing ones, and track and share students’ results on the platform.

Collins Evaluate is the second digital offering from Collins after Collins Digital Home Learning (CDHL), which was also launched amidst the COVID-19 lockdown.  CDHL has since garnered millions of page views. Technology, especially during this period, has moulded the way children of different age groups learn and are taught. Smartphones have become the new learning devices, with 74 per cent users accessing the home learning content on their phones.

Collins already offers free digital resources, namely Collins DigiSuite – ready-to-use digital lessons (supplemented with relevant videos, tutorials, animations, games, and worksheets) – to its user schools with student versions so that learning continues despite disruptions. Collins also conducts myriad online training programmes for the professional development of teachers. The educational webinars have gained widespread popularity among the teaching and learning fraternity, reaching an average of 50,000 people per webinar. These webinars include diverse topics such as coding, mathematics made easy, hands-on science, learning disability, environment conservation, English language games, decoding National Education Policy 2020, and doorstep astronomy, just to name a few.

Rageshree Niyogi, Head – Marketing, Collins Learning, India said, “Integration of education and technology has found a new meaning during the lockdown, and teachers have emerged as forerunners in this transformation. We have been constantly in touch with schools to help them navigate through the lockdown, facilitating the teaching-learning process. Our digital initiatives are completely aligned with the requirements of our educators and learners – be it Collins DigiSuite, Collins Home Learning and now Collins Evaluate. To upskill our educators, we conduct hundreds of professional development webinars to not only help them with pedagogy, but also to maintain a healthy work-life balance. Before the lockdown we had reached 5000 schools across the country with our workshops, but technology has now allowed us to connect with a much larger audience spread across geographies. This Teachers’ Day, I would like to congratulate all the educators and assure them of our continuing support in this teaching-learning process.”

Ananth Padmanabhan, Chief Executive Officer – HarperCollins Publishers, India, said, “These are extraordinary times and there has been a significant disruption to normalcy especially for millions of school going kids. At HarperCollins we have been working very closely with schools and teachers to help them bridge the learning gap. After the successful launch of our free Home Learning platform, we are delighted to announce Collins Evaluate to help structure and organize coursework. Over the next few weeks we will be launching Collins Science and Maths Assessments and our complete school solution Collins Infinity, an integrated Learning Management System. At HarperCollins, we believe learning never stops and are committed to creating new platforms to help teachers, student and parents educate and engage with children”.
