Here’s why PM Modi congratulated this 16-year-old boy

16-year-old Priyavrata created history when he became the youngest student to clear the ‘Mahapariksha,’ prompting PM Modi to tweet him congratulations.

“Excellent! Congratulations to Priyavrata for this feat. His achievement will serve as a source of inspiration for many!” PM Modi tweeted.

PM Modi was responding to a tweet that said, “History was created yesterday by 16-year-old Priyavrata (son of Smt Aparna and Sri Devadatta Patil). While studying Veda and Nyaya from his father, he studied all Vyakarana Maha Granthas from Sri Mohana Sharma and passed 14 levels of Tenali Pariksha, Youngest to pass the MahaPariksha.”

The prestigious ‘Tenali exams’ are described as a ‘marquee institution in the field of study of Shastras.’ The exams have 14 levels and is taken twice a year by students studying the ‘Shastras.’ As per indictoday.com, “Tenali exam has a stature, an aura, that can create an awe comparable to what a person in the West can feel for, say, an Ivy League institution in the US or ‘Ox-bridge’ in the UK.”

Tenali Exams operates like an ‘open university.’ Students study as per the traditional ‘Griha Gurukula’ system in different parts of the country, and come to Tenali twice a year along with their gurus for both written as well as oral semester exams. After a period of about six years of study, these students become eligible to take the ‘Mahapariksha.’
