School principals join hands to fight against their victimisation
Every time something goes wrong in a school, principal faces the brunt of the incident. Thus, in order to save themselves from becoming a scapegoat in case of any unfortunate incident occurring in schools, principals of various schools in Nagpur have come together to form the city’s first-of-its-kind CBSE-state board school principals’ association.
“In the Ryan International tragedy, the principal was arrested. Even in Nagpur, we have had principals being arrested for incidents which were not even remotely connected to them. Does the railway minister get arrested if there’s an accident at the station? Does the aviation minister get arrested after a crash? Then why does a principal have to behind bars for incidents that are comparatively the same?” The Times of India report quoted one of the principals of the association, who didn’t wish to be identified.
The proposed association will deal aggressively in such cases. It hopes to become the voice of the principals and ensure that no one is treated unfairly by the system.
“What we need to do is to speak in a strong and united voice whenever an injustice happens. Principals are manhandled by parents, abused by self styled activists, threatened by education officials and prosecuted by police without any logic being applied. This has to stop,” said one of the core team members to The Times of India.
While the groundwork for the formation of the organisation has already begun, it is expected to be launched in December.
The move is likely to have ripple effect throughout the country.
