Attn Students! Know these rules before you apply for college admission
With CBSE exams over, it is time to pursue higher studies. But before you rush to submit your certificates to obtain an admission in your favourite institute, it is important to know your rights. These rules have been framed to enable students to explore multiple opportunities and choices in terms of their academic career and to discourage institutes from indulging in profiteering practices at the time of admission.
Below is a list of instructions issued by the University Grants Commission (UGC) to university departments and affiliated colleges for compliance at the time of admission:
- No Higher Educational Institution (HEI) shall insist upon a student to submit original academic and personal certificates and testimonials like mark-sheets, school leaving certificates and other such documents at the time of submitting admission form.
- Institution of higher education shall physically verify the originals at the time of admission of the student in his/her presence and return them immediately after satisfying themselves about their authenticity and veracity, keeping their copies, self-attested by student, for record.
- No HEI shall make it mandatory for applicants to purchase institutional prospectus any time during the course of the programme of study. Purchasing prospectus shall be the personal choice of the student and he/she will have rights to decide against it in case he/she wishes to access the same information from institutional website.
Most important thing to remember, however, is to check whether the university you are applying is genuine or fake. UGC has published the list of fake Universities on its website, www.ugc.ac.in. So do check that.
